Brothers and co-authors of When The Cops Come Knockin’: An Illustrative Guide to Criminal, Travis Townsend, Jr. and Trinity Townsend were raised in the low-income, high-crime of Muskegon Heights, Michigan. They flirted from time to time with the wrong side of the law, but managed to escape the traps of a criminal record—by luck. It was in law school, as they learned the ins and outs of the law, that they realized just how many mistakes they’d made unknowingly—actions that could have landed them in the same traps that ensnared many of their friends.
Their experiences in law school birthed a vision to empower low-income and less educated audiences with the knowledge to prevent legal problems in advance and to successfully navigate the legal process. Here’s more about the authors.

For as long as he can remember, Travis Townsend has successfully juggled his professional pursuits with active civic engagement and community service. So, it comes as no surprise that he joined his brother—Trinity Townsend—in writing a book designed to educate and empower parents and youth with the information they need to stay on “the right side of the law”.
An educator turned attorney, Trinity Townsend has excelled at both preparing teenagers for successful lives in “the real world” and at advocating on behalf of youth and families in the justice system. You might say he’s enjoyed the best of both worlds. Indeed, it is this extensive expertise as an attorney and direct exposure to the needs of youth that prepared Trinity to join his brother in writing a book that fills some significant information gaps for parents, youth and teens.
